I’ve long thought that the percentage of visits going to Firefox in my site statistics were oddly high. It turns out it’s pretty much in line with numbers put out by both Bob Sutor and Joe Gregorio:

Traffic By Browser

Browser Visits
Firefox 64%
Internet Explorer 15%
Safari 10%
Mozilla 4%
Opera 4%

Traffic By Operating System

Operating System Visits
Windows 60%
Mac 22%
Linux 17%
iPhone 0.23% (53 Visits!)

These numbers are based on a total of 22,777 visits from 19,013 absolute unique visitors for the time period between Dec 29, 2007 through Jan 28, 2008 as collected by Google Analytics (feed and robot usage not included).

  1. Run a site served as application/xhtml+xml and your percentage of IE visitors will be even lower. :-)

  2. On the two sites I run that I have direct stats for, one is running around 60% Safari, followed by about 25% Firefox, IE tied with Opera at 1.5%. The other is about 70% Firefox, 13% Safari, 8% IE.

The first one has recently gotten several links from Daring Fireball, though, so I’d expect that it would otherwise show a larger share for Firefox.
